Home Economics

In the Home Economics Department at Kaimes pupils carry out both practical food and textile work.

S1/2 Coursework

Each week pupils work individually to produce a range of sweet and savoury dishes. At the end of the lesson the class discuss issues in food hygiene and safety, healthy eating and basic nutrition. Some examples of the dishes we make each week are;

Apple Muffins

Macaroni Cheese

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Spaghetti Bolognaise

Cheese Scones

Vegetable Stir Fry


S3 Coursework

Practical Food preparation activities continue and the recipes become slightly more complex. At this stage pupils are expected to work with more independence in their tasks. In S3 we also complete some sewing work in a joint project with Technology to produce a laptop cushion tray.


S4/5 Coursework

Pupils study either National 3 or 4 Hospitality Units and some S5 pupils study for the RHIS Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate.
