Kaimes School Ski Club

The ski club will hopefully be up and running when Covid-19 restrictions allow.

The Kaimes School Ski Club runs on Friday afternoons after school at Midlothian Snowsports Centre. During the course of the year the The Club attend Snow Factor several times per year . This is all funded through the Kaimes Special School Association (KSSA)  primarily by a grant from BBC Children in Need. And in 2013 we saw 12 pupils and 4 staff on our very first trip abroad which was a ski trip to the Austrian resort of Zell-am-See. This was aided by an Austrian organisation called Skiing4all who cater for people with learning difficulties. The fundraising for these was done entirely by the KSSA with the help of pupils, staff and parents.

Also, click on the link from the BBC regarding autism and skiing is worth a watch.

Skiing & autism

In 2017, BBC Scotland came to film us as part of the annual Children in Need fund raiser. There is a short film based around one our pupils, Josiah and his family and how skiing has benefitted his condition.

Skiing and animation: two students from Edinburgh College of Art visited the school and the dry ski slope at Hillend to inspire some of our pupils to create a ski-themed animated movie. See below for the amazing results.

Our next foreign ski trip was in March 2016 in Serre Chevalier and also to Le Corbier in March 2018, both in France. We travelled with some of our friends from Woodlands School in Edinburgh. (See below for details.)
